Weekly Commute - Time versus Distance

Now that I’ve been at my new job for about 4 months I’ve started to think about the Weekly Commute. On average I probably commute about 2100 miles a week to work. This is almost 4 times what my previous commute was from Bellingham to Bellevue. Luckily I don’t actually end up driving very much of it.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed about my new commute is the amount of time I spend doing it. Door-to-door takes me about 12 hours a week currently. This includes waiting time at the airport and 2 flights. Once I start my next project I’ll have a direct flight which will cut down on travel time. My old commute (not including the short lived Seattle to Bellevue one) probably took about 15 hours a week on average (2.5 hours each way, 3 days a week - door-to-door).

It now seems that I am actually spending less time commuting now than I was in the past. Granted there are other major differences related to the working in another state like residency, taxes, being away from home, etc but that’s a different thing altogether.

How does your commute fair?

So far so good. I’ve got to say that it sure is great not to be doing the Bellingham to Bellevue commute for work any longer either. Now when I go to Bellevue it’s for fun and what a difference that makes! :)

Mondays and Tuesday are WFH, and Wed - Thu are a 30 minute bus ride each way so i got it pretty good!

Thank you Seattle Metro, you make me happy, most of the time anyway. 8-)

My commute rocks…I spend 9 minutes in the car each way to get to work 4 days a week. I telecommute one day at home. That means I commute about 72 minutes per week. When I drove between Bellingham and Bellevue, I was commuting a minimum of 12 hours per week. It is a huge difference…

So far, my commute has been M, T, Th from Seattle to Bellingham, about 180miles/trip. Timing has varied completely, which can be irritating on Thursday Night, when I’m headin’ home for the last time during the week. In the mornings, I can get to Bellingham in about 1hr20mins.
